What's in a name?

Slender-tailed Cloud Rat
(Phloeomys pallidus)
With a name like that, I couldn't resist. And for being "rats," they're actually kind of cute.
That is, if you don't think about their teeth...

r.e., Thanks for stopping by my place and commenting. I still browse your art on the fly occasionally, but rarely take time to comment. I know that's rude, but . . .
Question: Do you draw the various skulls from pictures, or from actual skulls or models? The intricate light and shading patterns that give them such a three-dimensional quality look to my unschooled eye as if you had carefull placed light sources to illuminate details. But then, where would you have access to all those unique skulls? So I assume you're working from pictures. If so, I have an even greater (if possible) appreciation for your skill.

Hey, John! I still enjoy your posts and miss their former frequency!
I do work from pictures, mostly because it allows me greater mobility. If I have a picture to work from, I can take it with me and work anywhere; whereas a carefully lit still life is altered irreparably if you move a light source... or the subject.
Thank you!!
What a little sweetie! It looks more like our possums (not even related) rather than a rat. And not related to them, either!
They kinda look like our possums, too!
